First, allow us to introduce ourselves. . . .

What is UL?

UL FirewalkerUnderwriters Laboratories Inc. is an independent, impartial, not-for-profit organization that is devoted to testing products, equipment and devices for public safety.

UL began in 1894 in a spare room above a Chicago fire station where the first scientific evaluation of an electrical insulating material was conducted. From this simple beginning, UL has now become the leading North American safety certification organization, conducting more than 78,000 product evaluations last year. These evaluations covered more than 17,000 types of products. We provide services from more than 200 locations in the U.S. and throughout the world, evaluating products for their potential electrical, fire and casualty hazards; their burglary resistance; or their ability to detect, control or limit fires.

For more than 100 years, the UL Mark has been the most widely recognized product safety certification mark in the United States. UL is the only product certification organization to offer its unique combination of product certification services for all of North America.

What is the UL MarkWhat is the UL Mark?

The UL Mark is the most widely recognized certification of safety in North America. It means that samples of a product bearing the Mark have been tested to nationally recognized safety standards and found to be reasonably free from the risk of fire, electric shock and related hazards.

We invite you to visit UL’s own Web site to learn more about our company and our familiar, well respected Mark.
