"Celebrate Peace"
Winning artist: Min-Ji Yi
Age 13
Los Angeles, California USA |
The Lions International Peace Poster Contest was created in 1988 to give young people an opportunity to express their feelings about peace. The contest is open to youth worldwide, ages 11-13. The contest is held in schools or organized, sponsored youth groups (such as Scouts, YMCA programs, etc.) and each contest must be sponsored by a local Lions club.
Entries advance through several judging levels. At each level posters are judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of theme. Each year one grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners are selected. The grand prize winner receives US$2,500, a plaque and a trip for the artist, two family members and the sponsoring Lions club president to attend the awards ceremony. The merit award winners each receive US$500 and a certificate of achievement.
In addition, posters can be viewed on the Lions Clubs International Web site. The 24 international finalists also are displayed in a traveling exhibit that visits locations across the United States. For information on where the exhibit will be next, click here.
